GLBT History Month – Days 4 - 8

It’s GLBT History Month, and we’re celebrating people who are important to the GLBT community thanks to Equality Forum.

Saturday 10/4 - Sheila Kuehl:
She became the first openly gay California legislator. She was a member of the nation’s first legislative LGBT Caucus. Kuehl coauthored a bill defining marriage as a civil contract between two persons, which passed the state legislature, but vetoed by the governor.

Sunday 10/5 - Tennessee Williams:
He was one of the very first play writes to feature stories including opening gay characters. He’s best known for “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” and “A Streetcar Named Desire.”

Monday 10/6 - Alice Walker:
She’s the first African-American woman to receive a Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. She’s an amazing writer, best known for “The Color Purple.”

Tuesday 10/7 - Greg Louganis:
He’s one of world’s most visible gay athletes, and has won five Olympic gold medals. He is the world’s most successful diver.

Wednesday 10/8 - Bertrand Delanoe:
He is the first opening gay mayor, to one of the world’s largest cities – Paris, France. He was re-elected this past March.
