BEST REALITY TV SHOW EVER?
I’ve heard handfuls of people say they are so happy this election is almost over. They say they’re tired of all the back-and-forth between Senators Barack Obama and John McCain. I do understand their position, but I disagree. To be honest, I’ve enjoyed every second of it.
About three years ago, a friend of mine by the name of Jonny Mac, told me I was addicted to reality television. He also said, the day BO turns away from reality shows, is the day that type of television programming has reached its point of over saturation. I guess he never thought I’d turn my back on all the Big Brothers, Survivors and I Love New Yorks of the world. Who could blame him? I was the guy who had a “The Simple Life” calendar in my office honoring Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie.
But, my back did turn away from that form of television programming… or so I thought. I have been completely addicted to CNN’s election coverage over the past several months. As I write this, I completely realize I may not have been bitten by the political bug, but perhaps this year’s election is the best form of reality television ever. Think about it, the fights between Barack and Hillary, the tag teaming of Obama and Edwards to take down big woman on campus Clinton. Then, as Barack Obama and John McCain accept their party’s nominations, things seem to simmer down.
What happens next… a new media star is unveiled… enter… Sarah Palin, a woman no one ever heard of before. I know McCain put Barack Obama down by comparing him to Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. He called Obama the world’s biggest celebity. But, I’d have to say John McCain and his fellow Republicans worked their hardest to create their own media darling. This year’s Paris Hilton is by far Sarah Palin.
After this election, I feel I’ll be ready for the good ole days of reality TV again. There must be something going on on VH1 with Celebreality… perhaps Sarah and John could team up with Paris and Nicole for a new season of “The Simple Life.” They’re all going to try to stretch out their 15 minutes of fame a little further… for Palin, maybe 2012.
I want to thank the Democratic National Committee and Republican National Committee for making this one hell of a year. Lets give this reality slugfest the standing ovation it deserves and VOTE on November 4th!
What do you think? What issues matter most to you in voting for our new President?
