Day Without a Gay

I don’t know about you, but I’m sometimes viewed as the “office gay.” It’s funny, sometimes co-workers (even the ones who think they’re down with the gays) say some of the funniest things.

A couple years ago, during the height of “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,” one of the show’s stars, Jay Rodriguez, was participating in a project my company was producing. I remember, it was a Monday morning. I barely stepped one foot off of the elevator when I was first approached. “BO, Jay Rodriguez is here!” I thought, OK, great… good to know.

I made it to my studio, before my coat was off, “BO, did you know Jay Rodriguez is here?” Again, I thought, great… good to know. This same situation repeated itself over and over, about three or four more times before I got a little punchy. “BO, did you know Jay Rodriguez is here?” I finally replied, “Really! I knew the moment I got to Grand Central another gay was near me. I smelled him, I sensed him closer as I got closer to the office. I was looking for him in the cubes, but didn’t see one… I thought am I losing my gaydar? Thank god you told me Jay Rodriguez is here, now I should go to the TV studio and have sex with him, or, see if we are bff’s or perhaps can date.”

So, are you the office gay? Today is Wednesday, December 10, call in GAY FOR THE DAY. This is the first time in history LGBT men and women are being asked to not call in “sick,” rather “gay.” It’s International Human Rights Day, a great time to donate your energy to a good cause.
