The “MILK” Look

Spring is about to spring upon us, and that means saying sayonara to our pea coats and hello to short sleeves and shorts. But, as we’re giving our argyle sweater vests the ax … we better make sure we’re accenting the right parts of our bodies with the right attire!

Something I’ve noticed while walking around New York City’s east village, is how 70’s chic has been around for quite some time. To be honest, the movie “MILK” has just increased its popularity 10-fold.

So, is there a “MILK” look – absolutely. I’m quite the fan of it. What does this look, look like? It’s really simple and cheap to pull off… you can milk your wallet for all it’s worth, and still have some bills left over. It’s all about flared jeans and a tight graphic tee. That’s it, plain and simple. Hit up your favorite vintage shop or thrift store and you’re sure to find your own Harvey Milk rip off.

I’ve also been told by my friends on Fashion Ave. how important accessorizing is. When I got my new dark plastic frames for my glasses… they popped their collars (so-to-speak). I’m getting it, accessories make an outfit “pop.” So, to top off this 70’s in ’09 look, just throw on a pair of sunglasses (oversize wear), perhaps a belt with a larger belt buckle and slide on some kind of wrist-wear (beads, bands, threads… anything really works). A friend of mine wears thick black rubber bands around both wrists. People always notice them!

I kind of laugh while thinking we’re going to end up looking like male versions of the Olsen twins. But, if someone calls you Mary Kate or Ashley… guess you just made your outfit “pop!”
