New York Can Hear the Bells

Has a deal with the devil just been made? Is it possible some republicans may actually vote beyond party lines? Could gay republicans actually be behind this madness? The answer, a surprising “yes.”

The Log Cabin Republicans, an organization representing gay members of their party, have negotiated a deal with New York republicans which could help make way for marriage equality in the Empire State.

It was just two short years ago in 2007, the New York legislature voted on marriage equality, and the GOP voted the party line… against marriage equality.

But, could two years have made a difference… maybe. Republican lawmakers are being encouraged to vote their conscience on the issue. Some of these righties may actually give a thumbs up to legalized gay marriage. That’s a good thing, considering at least four democrats have pledged to vote against marriage equality when it comes up for a vote. A lot of power towards change lies in a few of these conservative hands, a few Republican Senators will need to vote “yes” in order for Governor Paterson’s bill to pass.

I can hear the bells… but just how distant are they, only time and a couple republican votes can tell.
