Perez Hilton Does the Gays Good

I have to admit I am torn into so many different directions over last night’s Larry King Live program. As we all know, there’s lots of talk about Sunday night’s Miss U.S.A. Pageant when celebrity blogger, Perez Hilton, asked Miss California about her view on gay marriage.

Her answer sparked a frenzy. So much so, it was the first time in the pageant’s history when a contestant was booed. She said marriage should be between a man and woman. Since then, Perez has been thrown into the public eye as a spokesperson for the gay community.

To be honest, I was horrified at the thought of a man who makes his living by drawing cocaine under Lindsay Lohan’s face in a photograph to represent me and the entire gay community. But, I must say he came off pretty damn good.

Perez was pitted against conservative radio host, Dennis Prager. They discussed what redefining marriage really means, and how it could affect a child’s development. As Prager says, “I think there is enough sexual confusion in the life of children not to add that.”

Hilton then approached the topic of interracial marriage, and how it was once illegal for two people of opposite skin color to legally wed. Times have changed! As Perez points out, there is a difference between civil marriage and religious marriage.

Prager could not understand the difference. In fact, I’m sure many older white-haired white men are just like him. The hottest new topic around is how age defines your view on legalized gay marriage. Just watch the clip. You see one generation up against the next. On the liberal-left side of the screen, Perez Hilton, a self-made man who built his life around new technology. On the conservative-right, Dennis Prager, a man trying his hardest to hold onto his 1950’s beliefs… which are slipping away faster than people are signing up for Twitter accounts.

Both men believe in “compassion,” and chat about the word during their debate. But after watching the clip I think you’ll see who truly understands and lives the word. You’ll also see someone who is latching onto the word so he doesn’t come off as a bigot. Prager later tried to relate gay marriage to the boy scouts and girl scouts of America. I have to say, the two are completely different. This is not child’s play. American gay men and women are being denied rights… we are being forced to live a life of “separate and unequal.”

And it isn’t okay.

One Response to “Perez Hilton Does the Gays Good”

  1. Thanks. I missed this. I see what you mean about the whole generational thing. I must say, not all guys in their 50’s are bad. My dad loves my husband, that’s rigt my husband! We may not be legally married, but my friends and family and everyone I know know’s I’m married to a man. New to your site and dig it.
