De Rossi Sets “View” Ladies “Straight”

Actress, Portia De Rossi recently appeared on ABC’s “The View,” and discussed some big issues. She discussed being a lesbian actress who plays heterosexual characters, why she stayed closeted for so long… life with her wife, Ellen, and why the word “marriage” is so important.

It’s kind of funny how straight people take marriage for granted, as Sherri Shepperd was surprised to find De Rossi didn’t find her marriage with Ellen as “work.” In fact, De Rossi says, “It feels like a very kind of calming, relaxing thing. Because of the commitment I feel like we’re just more of a team.”

She was then asked, if the word “marriage” is more important than the rights. She replied, “The word is not more important than the rights, but without the word we don’t have equal rights.”

This is an equal rights issue. As De Rossi said during the interview, the majority should never vote on the rights of the minority. Unfortunately, that is not the case on this particular issue. For some unknown reason, heterosexual men and women have the power to decide whether gay men and women are viewed as equal in society.

The interview gets good around (2:50). Also, the look De Rossi gives Elizabeth around (5:08) is priceless.

  1. The way she speaks to Elizabeth is a perfect example of how to communicate…calm, clear, with a hint of “really?”
