Cindy McCain: NO H8 or TOO L8?

posted by MyBoShow.com @ 9:25 am - January 21st, 2010

Photobucket

Cindy McCain recently posed for the NO H8 campaign. The campaign focused on bringing awareness to equality for all, specifically the LGBT community. Although this is a great “get” on the campaigns part… I just feel like saying it’s too late Cindy. Perhaps we should call Mrs. McCain’s photos TOO L8! Photographer, Adam Bouska, told the Advocate.com he spent several hours with McCain and really thinks she understands the need for equal rights for the gay community. So, they snapped, snapped and snapped away during the photo shoot.

It’s a pretty picture, and that’s about it. What does her feelings on equal rights for the LGBT community mean to anyone at this point. There was a moment just over a year ago, when she had a much larger public platform. When her husband, Senator John McCain, was running for the presidency, she had her pick of news shows, talk shows or newspapers to state her opinion on equal rights/marriage equality for the gay community. But, if my memory serves me correctly, that was not the platform her husband was running on. The very same platform she publicly supported and stood on in state after state across this country.

When Bouska was asked if she gave any indication whether John McCain is moving in the direction of supporting marriage equality? He said, “I got that impression. I don’t know that I should speak much about it, but I definitely got that impression.”

The impression I get is different. The impression I get, comes straight from John McCain’s mouth, “People should be able to enter into legal agreements.” That’s what Senator McCain told Ellen DeGeneres on her daytime talk show, when chatting about marriage equality. That’s what the platform Cindy McCain stood for represented. Once again, the LGBT community was asked to be “lesser.” I wonder if John McCain got down on one knee and asked Cindy to “enter into a legal agreement?” He went on to tell Degeneres, “I just believe in the unique status of marriage between man and woman.” As Ellen replied, It seems the statement says, “You can sit there, but you just can’t sit there.”

Looks like gay men and women are still riding in the back of the McCain “Straight Talk Express” campaign bus.

Update: Senator McCain’s office has issued a statement saying he respects his family members’ views, but that he is still opposed to gay marriage.

Scott Brown & Levi Johnston’s Bond

posted by MyBoShow.com @ 7:02 am - January 21st, 2010

As social networking sites become more and more popular, us working professionals are often told to be careful of the types of pictures we pose for, and post on the Internet. I guess no one told a then 22-year-old Scott Brown, to be careful of the types of photos he poses for, and has published in Cosmo. That’s right, the newly elected Massachusetts Senator (R) may have posed himself as more independent to win his seat in the Senate. But, he definitely was a little bit more liberal back in 1982, when it came to taking off his clothes… perhaps there’s hope for Levi Johnston after all! Remember Johnston’s Playgirl centerfold?

What did Senator Brown have to say about his body of work back in the day, “I’m not ashamed of my body, I work hard enough to keep it in shape. When you go to the beach, you automatically seek out the best bodies, female and male. Why should it be different in a magazine?”

I will be honest, he’s hot. He and President Obama should hit the beach together. Is it just me, or are our politicians getting younger and hotter everyday?

My First Anal Pap Smear

posted by MyBoShow.com @ 7:59 pm - January 20th, 2010

I’ve learned within the past year there’s an increase in anal cancer among gay men. So, I was actually relieved when I went for my physical this year, and my doctor said it would be a good idea for me to have one. I was already naked, and thought now is as good a time as any… so I gave my approval. I secretively thought how awkward it was going to be. My programmed way of thinking said to me, “this is something only women need done, not me.”

There I was, lying on my left side, my butt in my doctor’s face. Awkward, yes. He then started taking his samples. Even more awkward? Yes. What are these samples? Well, he just scrapes around the anus, outside and a bit inside too. I remember saying to him, “this is exactly why people don’t go to the doctor.” He laughed a bit.

He then placed these colorless, microscopic samples on a glass slide. It is pretty simple, and pretty necessary if you’re a gay man. It took no time, probably about a minute, and wasn’t as intrusive as I thought it would be. He told me, “If you’re a gay man, you definitely should have an anal pap smear.” More importantly, if you are often on the receiving end of anal intercourse, you definitely need one. Another thing, HPV inside the anus could lead to anal cancer. This is something, which should be taken very seriously.

I remember the Beyonce performance of “Single Ladies” on this past year’s MTV Video Music Awards. Before she wraps up the song, she says to all the single ladies watching, “Ladies, put your hand in his face!” Basically urging them to get a ring on it.

My advice, “Gentlemen, put your ass in his face!” Basically urging you to get an anal pap smear.

Adam Lambert, What People Really Think

posted by MyBoShow.com @ 1:29 pm - January 19th, 2010

The FCC recently released some of the complaints Americans filed regarding the Adam Lambert American Music Awards performance. To be honest, I originally thought the performance was a bit over the top… as in unnecessary. I even went as far as saying, it was a pathetic use of homosexuality to garner attention and press for his album, “For Your Entertainment.” I really didn’t understand the need to simulate oral sex on stage.

But, it wasn’t until I heard him speak his mind to the ladies of ABC’s The View, that I finally understood where he was coming from. As he brought up, women have been performing this way for years. Hell, Madonna and Britney Spears built careers around it. Adam Lambert doesn’t hide the fact that he’s gay. We accept and enjoy his art for who he is. It should come as no surprise that he even kissed a guy during the AMA performance. So, why is it so awful that he kissed a man on stage? It’s really not that big of a deal… so what, he kissed a dude while performing a song. Again, so what?

Sure, some people considered this depiction of homosexuality tasteless, or maybe even obscene. But, what I find the most obscene is the blatant homophobia represented inside most of these complaints. It was utterly stomach churning reading some of the comments. The first letter opens up with demeaning Lambert, and all gay men and women by referring to him as a “fagatoni.” Perhaps this was an attempt at being funny, but it was blatant hate language, specifically used to lessen Lambert to subhuman. Another FCC complaint went as far as to say, “ABC should have denied him his rights as a human being.”

Really?!? How are these types of hate thoughts even acceptable? These complaint letters should be sent straight to the White House, so President Obama can see why it is so important to have something like the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA). There are so many Americans willing to strip the LGBT community of its rights, just because we are attracted to members of the same sex.

“Just wondering if a gay kiss between two fudge packers no longer falls below standards,” is the question which completely broke my heart and went too far. Is this really what some people consider me when they see me kissing my boyfriend? It’s sad to see such hate still exists in this world.

Lets not forget the infamous same-sex Madonna and Britney Spears kiss from the MTV Video Music Awards in 2003. They opened the show, and French kissed one another in the 9:00 hour. This is a time when most families are watching television together. The picture of their kiss was blown up, and on the cover of the following morning’s newspapers across the world. Spears was even quoted as saying to CBS News, “It humbled me, and it gave me something to look up to.”

Lambert’s same-sex kiss occurred at the end of the music awards show, after the 11:00 hour when most children are asleep. Unlike his fellow pop star’s lip lock, his kiss was not on the cover of newspapers. Instead, he was chastised and ripped to shreds by ABC, and watched as some of his scheduled appearances were cancelled for upcoming shows.

My question, why is male homosexuality so feared by straight America. They are so willing to watch two blond women (one definitely old enough to be the mother of the other) French kiss. But, they can’t accept two men of the same age enjoying a brief lip-on-lip moment?

Have a heart, is all I have to say. Whether it’s guy-on-girl, girl-on-girl or guy-on-guy… people are people. We are made of the very same thing… blood, veins and other organs. Who we choose to share those organs with is up to each of us. Above all, we should embrace difference. If for some reason you cannot accept, or even understand something that is different… perhaps you should look inside yourself and wonder why you are being bothered. Because above all else, Adam Lambert has the right to be who he is. I’m thankful he isn’t afraid to show himself to the world.

New Katy Perry

posted by MyBoShow.com @ 8:51 pm - January 18th, 2010

It’s been months since we’ve last seen a new video from music’s latest pop tart, Katy Perry. I’m more than happy to say she’s back! This time collaborating with Rapper, Timbaland. Check out their newest song, “If We Ever Meet Again.” FYI - Katy’s working on her sophomore album, and says it’s more “grown up and evolved.” Perry also says her mega-hit debut, “One of the Boys,” was a “dear diary album,” being written between the ages of 17 and 23. Things are different writing as a 24-year-old Perry says. But, she promises a “fun pop record.”

Being Gay: You Are Who You Are

posted by MyBoShow.com @ 11:01 am - December 20th, 2009

You know, I’m always a sucker for an inspirational story, particularly when it’s about growing into your own and becoming the man, woman or in this case… dog you’re supposed to be — even though it goes against what others want for you. This past week, I celebrated eight years of being an “out” gay man. It wasn’t until I fully accepted myself, that others were able to see me for my true self, including my parents. The overall message of you can’t help being who you are is a beautiful thing.

Walters’ Inappropriate Gaga Question

posted by MyBoShow.com @ 8:44 pm - December 13th, 2009

Lady Gaga
had quite a big year, and topped it off with becoming one of Barbara Walters’ “Most Fascinating People.” She may not be sitting on top of the list, that honor belongs to First Lady, Michelle Obama. But, Gaga was the first lady to be asked perhaps one of the most inappropriate questions during the ABC Special.

Walters asked the popstar about the popularity of her hit single, “Poker Face,” and the line “Bluffing with my muffin.” These lyrics got lots attention and made many wonder if Gaga was indeed lesbian or bisexual. Gaga says, “I do like women… I’ve only been in love with men, I’ve never been in love with a woman.” Walters was not satisfied with that answer, so she probed further, and asked what I consider the most inappropriate question, “Have you had sex with women?”

Now, how is that ever an appropriate question to ask anyone? This just goes to show how straight people view homosexuality as just sex. Gay men and women are made into sexual beings by a straight society. Notice, when Lady Gaga chats about being bisexual, she brings up love and chats about the emotional side. Walters brings up sex, and wants to know the nitty gritty details.

Would Walters ever think of asking Angelina Jolie about her sex life with Brad Pitt, probably not. Would she dare ask Michelle Obama about her first sexual experience with President Obama… absolutely not. Why the double standard?

My reaction was pretty similar to that of Lady Gaga’s. The bisexual stuff starts around (2:25)

Lambert Appears on The View

posted by MyBoShow.com @ 10:17 pm - December 10th, 2009

ABC’s “The View” is like a daily gay blog coming to life. Damn, those ladies get the best guests. Adam Lambert just appeared on the show and discussed the infamous American Music Awards performance. To be honest, at first I thought it was an abuse of his homosexuality. But, now I get it.

I think the best part of this interview happened between him and Joy Behar. Behar said how she felt the reaction to his performance of “For Your Entertainment” was homophobic. She also pointed out that, “When Britney and Madonna kiss, and do their little thing, nobody cares because it is women. But when it comes to two guys kissing, or simulating sex, they don’t like it.”

I must say Lambert has quite the personality and is pretty eloquent. I may not like his music (yet), but I definitely dig him as a person. Well done Adam, bust down those homophobic doors… or just grab another dancer’s head into your crotch.

Ex-Boyfriend Penguins Make TIME’s List

posted by MyBoShow.com @ 9:49 pm - December 10th, 2009

Love, isn’t it a beautiful thing… something that could give you that weird indescribable feeling in your belly. It’s something that could turn a sane man mad… you know, mad love.

Well, when it goes bad, it could turn you into a weeping idiot on the 4 express train from Grand Central all the way down to Fulton Street (don’t ask).

TIME magazine just announced their “Top Ten Breakups of 2009.” Two well know gay couples made the loss of love list. At number nine was the well-publicized breakup of previous heart-pounding penguins, Harry and Pepper, from the San Francisco Zoo. They were lovers from first waddle. Things didn’t get hairy until Harry started having sex with a female penguin. How dare he! Pepper was so angry he attacked the Casanova, leading to their breakup.

Also on the list were Lindsay Lohan and DJ Samantha Ronson. I guess you could say their relationship wasn’t music to their ears anymore.

As for me, I went through a breakup in 2009 and know how it could flat out suck. So, to all of us who lost love this past year, just know… it’s time to defy gravity!

Boys Club Degrading Gays, Again

posted by MyBoShow.com @ 9:41 pm - December 7th, 2009

Photobucket

Straight men… damn the things that come out of their mouths. Today I witnessed yet another example of how the “boys club” singles out gay men and tries to make us appear as “less than.”

I was standing in the marbled lobby of my office building. As I was waiting for one of the many elevator doors to open, I saw a group of five “bandwagon brothers” walking my way. It was kind of funny, they all were dressed very similar, and acting the same… talking very loudly and gawking at the women who were also waiting for an elevator ride back to their office.

As one of the doors opened, it was only the six of us who got in… me and the “bandwagon brothers.” As the doors closed, I couldn’t help but listen to their loud conversation. One of these men was going on-and-on about one of the girls he seemed infatuated with. He mentioned to his buddies how he met “her boyfriend” over the weekend. His words exactly, “He’s very artsy, like a gay Bob Saget.” They all laughed.

I was offended. I immediately turned to them, specifically the one who said the comment. I gave him a disapproving look. The doors then opened and all five got off the elevator.

The rest of the ride up to my office floor I couldn’t help but wonder. Do all these men suffer from group think… it is disgraceful to call a straight man gay. Is that a bad thing? Is gay bad? I then thought, would these guys act this way if they were one-one-one with me… not in their wolf pack? Was it the safety in numbers that made each one more powerful and boastful and derogatory? My thought, yes.

But, I wanted to pull them aside and ask if they have any gay friends. I wanted to know if they would consider that gay friend’s feelings before saying that comment. I was really bothered

It’s little comments like this that keep the LGBT community “less than.” To me, this wasn’t just a joke, it was the beginning of something which leads into discrimination against me and other gay men and women.

It reminded me of a comment Ellen made on one of her shows about being gay and the discrimination and hatred towards our community, she said, “I would like you to start paying attention to how often being gay is a punch line of a monologue, or how often gay jokes are in a movie, and that kind of message… laughing at someone because they are gay is just the beginning… we must change the message.”

We are not second-class citizens!!!

De Rossi Sets “View” Ladies “Straight”

posted by MyBoShow.com @ 4:52 pm - December 7th, 2009

Actress, Portia De Rossi recently appeared on ABC’s “The View,” and discussed some big issues. She discussed being a lesbian actress who plays heterosexual characters, why she stayed closeted for so long… life with her wife, Ellen, and why the word “marriage” is so important.

It’s kind of funny how straight people take marriage for granted, as Sherri Shepperd was surprised to find De Rossi didn’t find her marriage with Ellen as “work.” In fact, De Rossi says, “It feels like a very kind of calming, relaxing thing. Because of the commitment I feel like we’re just more of a team.”

She was then asked, if the word “marriage” is more important than the rights. She replied, “The word is not more important than the rights, but without the word we don’t have equal rights.”

This is an equal rights issue. As De Rossi said during the interview, the majority should never vote on the rights of the minority. Unfortunately, that is not the case on this particular issue. For some unknown reason, heterosexual men and women have the power to decide whether gay men and women are viewed as equal in society.

The interview gets good around (2:50). Also, the look De Rossi gives Elizabeth around (5:08) is priceless.

NY Governor Stands Up for Gay Rights

posted by MyBoShow.com @ 10:18 am - December 2nd, 2009

Photobucket

We recently found out New York State is nowhere close to legalizing gay marriage. This is a sad truth, which makes me very upset. But I am going to try to look on a brighter side. I know there’s lots of negative talk about New York’s Governor, David Paterson. But, I will say this, he is a champion of gay rights. He himself suffers discrimination because he is considered legally blind. I guess it takes being someone who is judged less than, based on being different, to make you see both sides of the coin.

He sat down with The Advocate and gave an amazing interview, and said some of the most beautiful things. He started off by saying we are living during a very important time, “I think it is probably the most significant human rights legislation that we’re addressing at this particular time in history,” said Paterson.

The Governor also addressed the fact that there is fear to legalizing gay marriage. He said to those who fear change, “I think that in situations where there has been centuries of oppression and documented forms of discrimination, that those who have caused it are suffering to a certain degree from the lack of security to let other people live their lives.” Legalizing same-sex marriage doesn’t take the rights away from those who already have it. But, it extends it to those who are living “less than” lives based on laws discriminating against them.

Paterson says he receives many “thank you’s” when he is on the streets of New York City. But, you may be surprised to find that only half of those are from LGBT people. The other half come from family members and friends of gay men and lesbians who want to see their loved ones have equal rights.

He wraps up the interview with big hopes, “I’m hoping that when marriage equality passes that this will be the ultimate symbolic gesture, that this society… accepts the men and women who live in that society.”
